WHAT IS THE HUMAN CONNECTION ECONOMY 4.0 (HCE 4)?

Updated: Feb 27, 2021

Since the World Economic Forum of 2016, we are aware that the 4th industrial revolution is on its way, and we know the visible surface of it: it includes artificial intelligence, biotechnologies, humanoid robots, etc ...

The basis of this 4th industrial revolution is what we have decided to call in 2017, the Human Connection Economy 4.0: the process that provides a specific path to success in the 4.0 economy with the tools of today and tomorrow, and not those of the 70s or the early 21st century. But how do we know what the heart of the 4th industrial revolution is made of? Contemporary economic history gives us the answer. Until the middle of the 19th century, the 1st industrial revolution met the physiological needs of populations, i.e. the basic needs of human beings to ensure their survival. The 2nd industrial revolution, up to the early seventies, answered society's safety needs: food safety, building safety, travel safety, safety of chemicals for textiles, etc. The 3rd industrial revolution, from the 70s to 2010, answered to a new category of human needs linked to belonging, i.e. the fact of being able to integrate into a group, to obtain social status and to have access to relevant information. The most important vector in this category of needs has been the development of brands and the marked symbolization of what they have been able to represent for the consumer carrying a branded product and for his entourage, in terms of social image and response to the need to belong.

All this has been synthesized since 1947 in the pyramid of human needs by the American psychologist Abraham Maslow: "Physiological Needs", "Security" and "Belonging" are the first three levels, each of which correspond to one of the three past industrial revolutions. This is how we know today that the 4th industrial revolution will allow humans to meet their need for "Esteem". This need for Esteem 4.0 encompasses the need to be recognized, appreciated, to stand out from the crowd, to feel useful, visible, to be able to express one's skills, passions, capacity for innovation, to work on one's self-esteem and that of others. Thus, this category of human needs allows man to learn to love himself, to love his bright parts as well as his darker parts. This ability enables one to learn over time to accept the darker parts in other people, and to be able to truly love others as they are and not as we would like them to be.

This fourth ladder of Maslow's pyramid is the “Esteem”, which creates the Human Connection. It allows the human being to learn to connect to himself and his environment, that is to say, to the universe in general and to others in particular. The 4th Industrial Revolution meeting the human needs of Self-Esteem is therefore the Human Connection Economy, the one we have called the Human Connection Economy 4.0 (or HCE 4).
